Dear Mr. Christensen,
I have written three pieces in this class this semester. One literacy narrative about college and in this piece I am trying to target people who have had a hard time making choices about college or have not had guidance into college. In this piece I hoped to accomplish positive outcomes for others by letting them know how important college is. Even if someone has made mistakes in the past, there is always the future and there are always chances to get into school. In my first draft of this essay, I had talked a lot about my personal life. There is still a fair amount but I decided to cut out the unnecessary parts and express how I got into school with feeling.
My rhetorical analysis essay was written on Robin Williams’s suicide. The target audience in this piece is the people who were fighting over the reasons of his death. The accomplishment that is important to me is telling people there are many reasons for this amazing man’s death. No one really knows what Robin felt emotionally and even if he was depressed, there could have been many more reasons for his death. This draft needed a lot of changes. I originally wrote my thoughts and feelings about Robin and researched about his life. I had to change the essay telling why I agreed or disagreed with the authors of the story I was analyzing with a lot of feedback.
The last essay I have written is the issue of exploration. This essay was rough. When I research, I find so much information that I get lost and I want to run in different directions. In this essay, my target audience is everyone. All ages, genders, nationalities etc. It is important for everyone to know that self defense is useful. I want to accomplish helping more women get into self defense classes for fun, safety, confidence, and a great workout. Women could train in self defense and still be beautiful and feminine. I didn’t have strong enough viewpoints in my first draft. I had to research some more information and express how easy it is to get into a self defense program.
This semester I have grown as a writer in many ways. I have learned to focus more and how to pay attention to details while reading. I understand what a writer is trying to talk about better. I didn’t enjoy reading before but learning the details of writing has also taught me to read better. As I get older and have been in school, I have enjoyed reading and writing more.
I believe that reading some ones writings will tell a lot about themselves. You can get the feel for who they are and why they are writing these pieces for the most part. I wrote about women and self defense because I am a sporty woman with 3 children and I feel it is always important to take care of myself and have safety precautions in case of an emergency. I have enjoyed this class and had the pleasure to meet some great people.
Sincerely,
Danielle Memmott
